Gary Thomas Platt, age 53 of Mechanicsburg, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, August 15, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born December 9, 1957 in East Meadow, NY, he was a son of the late Josephine (Barresi) and William H. "Henny" Platt, Sr.


Gary was a graduate of Sewanhaka High School, Class of 1976 where he was a star running back and attended Nassau County Community College. He worked as a carpenter and general contractor and was skilled in taking on virtually any task or project. Gary was a member of New Covenant Fellowship in Mechanicsburg and in his free time enjoyed gardening and outdoor activities, keeping active, as well as reading and listening to all kinds of music. Gary was a loving and devoted family man and was a wonderful example to those lives he touched through his love of Jesus Christ.


Surviving is his wife Linda S. (Miller) Platt; his children Brian Platt, Lisa Orlowski and husband Matthew, and Michael Platt; his step-children Andy, Ellen, and Jacob Sherman; his sisters Carolyn of Melville, NY, Annabel of Babylon, NY, and Patricia Platt of Mechanicsburg; his brothers William Platt, Jr. and wife Sylvia of Asheville, NC and Kenneth Platt of Levittown, NY; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 20 at New Covenant Fellowship, 4500 Creekview Road, Mechanicsburg followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship. There will be a visitation with the family from 9:00 to 10:30 AM Saturday at the church. Interment will take place in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsburg at 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gary's memory to the American Cancer Society, 3211 N. Front Street, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110, Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or to Y.A.I., an organization that helps those with disabilities, 460 W. 34th Street, New York, NY 10001 or at www.yai.org.
