George Arbuthnot was the son of Robert Arbuthnot, 2nd of Haddo-Rattray and Mary Urquhart.
He married Elizabeth Fraser, daughter of Donald Fraser, on 26 April 1810 at St. Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras, India.
He was Founder of Arbuthnot and Co.., Madras.of Elderslie, Ockley, Surrey. JP, 1st of Elderslie.
