Martha Alice Hiatt was the daughter of David James Hiatt and Elizabeth "Betsy" Penn Eberman. She married Solomon Darst on 31 Jul 1879 and they had six children.

Solomon died in 1905 at the age of 48 years. Cause of death was rupture produced by violent coughing.

On 12 Dec 1906 she married William H Beam at the Julien Hotel in Hamburg, Iowa. William was the son of Peter Beam and Emma Miller. After living on their farm for a few years, they moved to Anderson, Fremont County, Iowa, a town northeast of Sidney.

Martha was a member of the Cherry Grove Church and was active in community activities.

Martha died at her home in Anderson at the age of 80 years 7 months and 23 days.
