When Elsie Mary Koontz CLEM was born on May 20, 1895, in New Market, Virginia, her father, William Benjamin Clem (1837-1907), was 58, and her mother, Mary Frances Breedlove (1853-1896), was 42.

She married Francis Jacob "Frank" Kirby (1893-1943) on December 25, 1913, in Lonaconing, Maryland when she was 18 years old, he was 20.

Frank and Elsie had seven children in 16 years:

She died on February 16, 1931, in Allegany, Maryland, at the age of 35, and was buried in Elk Garden, West Virginia.

Funeral of Mrs. Frank Kirby
Kitzmiller, Md., Feb. 21

The funeral of Mrs. Frank Kirby of this town who died early Monday morning in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, was held in the Methodist Episcopal Church Thursday, by Rev. Charles R. Kupfer. Burial was at Nethken Hill. She was 35 year of age and is survived by her husband, six daughters and one son. She is also survived by five brothers and two sisters. The pallbearers were Fred Burrell, David Sowers, Ed Burrell, Herman Kellar, C. H. Jones and Walter Kellar; flowerbearers, Misses Lotis Davis, Gertrude Sell, Ora Clem, and Dorothy Papa. Among those attending were: Grover Clem, of Shameburg, Pa.; Mrs. Barbara Clem, Hagerstown; Mrs. Dorothy Papa, Shameburg, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Clem and family, Headsville, W. Va.; Mrs. Florence McNiel and daughters, Louise and Irene, of New Market, Va.; Mrs. Beatrice Johnson, of Port Republic, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Sell, Breedlove, W. Va., and Mrs. Blanche Clem and son, Cresaptown Md.
