Nora Annetta was the eighth child born to Joseph Horace Johnson and Julia Hills Eagar Johnson. She was born in Moab, Utah, April 20, 1887. Her father was a cattleman and rode the range most of the time. He raised mostly alfalfa and corn to feed the cattle. The family home was on Poverty Flat outside of Moab. Her mother and the children raised the garden which along with the milk and meat from the cows, chickens and pigs, was their food. The family lived almost entirely on what they raised. Nora became a skilled horse woman, seamstress, quilter and wonderful cook. She attended high school in Moab and then spent one year at BYU in Provo, Utah.
She and Russel McConkie were married October 8, 1908. They became the parents of six children: Wayne Russell born September 10, 1909; Faun (Tanner), born July 30, 1911; Lois (Parrish) born October 22, 1915; Ruth Nelson, born November 26, 1919, Clyde Elson, born March 30, 1925, who died from polio at age three and a half years; and Norma Kirby, born June 13, 1930.
In 1954 Nora was nominated for Utah Mother of the Year by Doris Melich.
