Concert pianist and founder of the Drexel Hill Conservatory of Music. Shortly after his birth in Bulgaria his family moved to Philadelphia where his father moved to start its first Armenian Congregational Church. Elijah trained as a concert pianist under Constantin von Sternberg and attended the Curtis Institute from 1924-1926, studying under Sydney, Australian-born George Frederick Boyle. Elijah instructed his younger brother the noted composer Richard Yardumian. Elijah married Mary Esayian. He was a member of the Society of Friends Weekly Meeting in Lansdowne and lived at 818 Childs Avenue in Drexel Hill. He had two sons Drs. John & Haig Yardumian. Elijah & Mary's grave is unmarked but located next to the large Esayian stones of his wife's family.
