U.S. Congressman. Moving to Massachusetts, in 1877, he became a manufacturer of rubber clothing in Hudson, in 1885, served as president of the Apsley Rubber Company and was president of the Hudson Board of Trade and a director of the Hudson National Bank. In 1893, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1897. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he served two terms as vice chairman of the Republican National Congressional Committee and resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 72.
