The body of five-month-old Regina Rene Oliver, a drowning victim in the Nelson County flood of Aug. 20, was recovered yesterday.

She was born March 16 of this year in Waynesboro, a daughter of Jerry Wayne and Lois Painter Oliver of Massies Mill.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oliver of Massies Mill; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna Painter Fretwell, and maternal step-grandfather, J. C. Fretwell, both of Waynesboro; and paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Oliver of Massies Mill.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday during graveside rites for her brother, Jeffrey Wayne Oliver, 3, who also perished in the flood. The service was held in the Calvary United Methodist Church cemetery at Stuarts Draft, conducted by the Rev. L. L. Corr.

The body will remain at Etter Funeral Home until burial late today.

(The News-Virginian, Tuesday, August 26, 1969)

(Note: drowning was a result of the flood from Hurricane Camille that devastated areas of Central Virginia with an estimated 8-12 inches of rain onto an already-soaked ground.)
(The total was revised upward to 27 inches in an 8-hour period: The News-Virginian, Aug. 28, 1969)
