Danny, a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a truck driver, was killed when he lost control of his truck and it left the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 and overturned. He was survived by his wife, Janice, his children, Dana, Danny, Jr., and Kathy, his parents, John, Sr. and Alice, and his brother, John, Jr.

For his service in Vietnam, he received the following awards:
