US Congressman. A member of the Republican party, he was elected to the US House of Representatives from Massachusetts 11th district From March 1889 until March 1891. After attending local schools, be became involved in the paper manufacturing business. He first entered politics as a member of the Board of Selectmen of Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 1864, 1865, and 1867. In 1873 he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives and served as member of the Massachusetts Governor's Council from 1880 until 1882. In 1888 he was elected to Congress for one term and was not a candidate for re-nomination in 1890. Upon leaving office he returned to his paper manufacturing business. He died at the age of 79.
