Obituary:

Brian Scott Horton was born April 28, 1976 in Winner, South Dakota. The son of Michael and Thelma (Horton) Van Steenwyk, Brian got to know many different people as he grew up in Winner, Alcester, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Elkhorn and Valley, Nebraska. He attended high school in both Elkhorn and Valley, and graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1994. As a young boy, Brian was fascinated with dinosaurs, stars, swords, and Dungeons and Dragons. As he grew to a teenager, he became interested in girls and partying with his friends.

After high school, Brian enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was on active duty in the Air Force from May 1995 until his honorable discharge in October 1997. Following his active duty service, Brian was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1997 until February 2003. During his time in the Air Force and National Guard, Brian received many achievement awards and commendations, including: Outstanding Academic Achievement, the Air Force Longevity Service Medal, and the Leadership Ribbon for Academic Achievement, and Outstanding Achievement in the Vehicle Operation Course.

Brian married Amy Malesa on September 22, 2001 at the Yutan Country Club in Yutan, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two sons, Jakob and Kalob, and has a baby girl due in September. The family has made their home in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

Brian has worked as a delivery driver for Crescent Electric for the last several years. In his free time, Brian enjoyed gaming, paintballing, BBQing, fishing with the boys, cheering for the New York Yankees, being outdoors, and spending time with his family. He deeply loved his family, and was excited about the coming arrival of his first baby girl. Brian will be remembered as a strong willed man, who had his mother’s temper. He had a very strong work ethic, and was a loyal friend, and loved the Oakland Raiders.

Brian passed away unexpectedly at the Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at the age of 35 years, 3 months, and 12 days.
