News was received in Brainerd yesterday by his brother Charles S. Hazen that Edward Hazen had died suddenly while on a hunting trip. Later developments showed that in company with Harry Gearhart, a Duluth resident, Mr. Hazen had left Saturday morning for a short hunting trip at Mr. Gearhart's camp near Floodwood. Yesterday morning the two gentlemen started for the woods and Edward Hazen suddenly dropped and before his companion could reach him he was dead, heart failure being ascribed as the cause. The body was taken to Duluth where the funeral services will be held Tuesday, the remains to be shipped to Brainerd, interment to take place at Evergreen cemetery Wednesday morning from the Whitney undertaking rooms at 10 o'clock.
Edward Hazen was well known to all early residents of this city having been in the employ of the Howe, Gleason Lumber Company from 1881 to 1890, leaving their employment to go to Duluth where he entered the real estate business. The deceased was in his 64th year. He leaves a wife and two children, Chauncey Hazen and Mrs. Nicholson.
He was a member of the Masonic and Elks fraternities. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch,01 October 1917, p. 2, c. 4)
