Mrs. L. D. Willett's notes: "Edwin Willett, youngest brother of Lucius and Fernando Willett, was born at Bakersfield, Vermont. He was a very frail and a very precocious child and very musical. He went to Evansville to his brother, Fernando, and attended school, preparatory to going to college. Took an active part in the closing of the school. In March 1868 he suddenly [closed?] with pneumonia and passed away." In the 1860 federal census for Bakersfield he was Edgar age 5 born in NY (sic). He signed once E. E. and once Ed, and the grave stone says Eddie. One surviving letter, "Bakersfield, Vt Oct 6/67 My Dear bro Lute. ... Fernando last-night said mother arrived there all right Father has not sold his hops yet don't know whether he ever will or not but am in hopes he will get a good price for them. ...." signed "affectionate brother Ed. " Mentions going along with mother as far as Virgenns where Geo Scott resides. Another from Evansville, Indiana, Feb 16/68: "Dear brother Lute, Received your letter this morning ... I fully appreciated the good advice you gave me & trust I shall not fall into the bad habits my older brothers have already. You doubtless received a paper ere this giving a full account of the examinations at the High School... a grand affair... on Friday the (___) exercises occurred which was conducted with good success by the Junior Class of which I was a member..... You dont know how I want to see you but it will be impossible I suppose at present. You asked if Fernando & myself were going home this year...(off the copy) course we are & you must go too (off copy) along far enough yet to decide (off copy) what route we shall take but have fun calculating on having you & Harris go with US & I cant possibly give it up. Well it is getting late & I must close F. sends love to all. From your affectionate brother E. E. Willett".
