Fred Carragan was the son of John H. Carragan and Carrie Snyder. Both parents outlived their son by several years. Carragan was a Manhattan attorney whose obituary was reported in the NY Times. He graduated from Law School at George Washington University in 1891, having won the Parker Prize and was a member of the legal fraternity of Phi Delta Phi. He appeared to be an active man, with photos in tennis attire, with a bicycle and a NYT mention of a rowing regatta.

The writer of this bio is the granddaughter of Fanny Peck, who Carragan fell in love with in the 1890's. Apparently Fred came with his family to visit their "country" cousins in upstate NY and Fred became smitten with his second cousin Fanny. Writer has Fred's letters and pictures sent to Fanny over several years. The relationship seemed to have cooled into a friendship by the time of his last letter, only a month before his death. Fred mentions his grave concern for his mother's health. There is no indication of his own failing health except feeling chilled often. Carragan was only 31 years of age. NJ Report of Death (attached) states "acute anemia".

His mother Carrie Snyder Carragan gifted Fanny with Fred's pinkie ring after his death. One wonders how Fred's death affected Fanny as she did not marry until 12 years later at age 39.
