Mr. Cassiday passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Roseville Area Ambulance or to to the Silver Tomahawk Lodge 80 Order of Arrow.

A son of Ray V. and and Mabel G. Swartz Cassiday, he was born Feb. 25, 1922, in Kirkwood. He married Betty L. Orndoff, Dec. 24, 1943, in Monmouth, who died May 28, 1983.

His parents, three brothers, a niece, a son, a granddaughter and a sister also preceded him in death.

He leaves: four sons, John Cassiday of Smithshire, Jay Cassiday of Monmouth, Jim Cassiday of Lomax and Ed Cassiday, West Point, Mo; two daughters, Nita Clark of Monmouth and Shirley Cassiday of Roseville; 48 foster children; 22 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Cassiday was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force in World War ii, where he was a corporal, and a member of the Stronghurst American Legion. He came to Smithshire in 1950, where he owned and operated a grocery store, served as postmaster for 28 years, and was involved in with the Boy Scouts for 42 years and was the recipient of its Silver Beaver Award.

He was a member of the Kirkwood United Presbyterian Church, and he and his wife provided a home for 48 foster children
