Dr. Arnot's Father Dies at Pawnee City


Lycurgus B. Arnot was born July 15, 1856, at Salt Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, and passed away at his home in Pawnee City, Wednesday morning at the age of 85 years and 7 days, after an illness of eleven weeks.

Mr. Arnot came west to Craig, Mo., in 1881, and for three years lived in Craig and Fairfax, Mo. In 1884 he lived on a farm in Johnson County and taught one term at Kennedy school. He then went to Tecumseh where he was married August 8, 1888, to Miss Mary Carmine. The couple moved to Johnson, where they both taught in the public school for four years. They then moved to Wauneta, Chase County where they lived for three years, moving to Elk Creek in July or August, 1895. They taught one year in Elk Creek then returned to Johnson, where they taught another four years and Mr. Arnot was superintendent. Mr. Arnot the resigned from the school and traveled for four years for the Deering Harvester Company. He was then appointed as state oil inspector for southeastern Nebraska which position he held for about two years. In 1910 the family purchased and moved to the farm, three miles east of Pawnee City, where they lived until they retired in 1921, and bought a home in Pawnee City, where they lived ever since. He was preceded in death by his wife who died December 18, 1933.


Mr. and Mrs. Arnot were the parents of three sons who survive: Dr. C. B. Arnot, Humboldt; Dr. L. D. Arnot, Exeter; and M. E. Arnot, Los Angeles, California.


Funeral services will be held from Wherry's Chapel in Pawnee City at 10 o'clock Friday morning.
