William Thrall was born in August, 1605 in Sandridge, Hertsfordshire, England, and baptised there on August 8. His father was also named William. The younger William Thrall came to Windsor before the Pequot War, in which he was a soldier from Windsor. He was granted land in 1640. In 1646, he and Robert Wilson bought Hoyte's Meadow, which must have been far from the town, because he was exempted from the duty of "watch and ward", so he could be home nights with his family. William died August 3, 1679 at 73 years. "Old Goode Thrall", probably his wife, died July 30, 1676. They were the parents of at least three children.

William left a will, dated December 11, 1678. In it, he names his son Timothy and daughter Phillipi Hosford and granddaughter Sarah Hosford.
