CARY, J. Richard "Dick," 78, of Lutz, Fla., died August 3, 2011. He was born to the now late John R and Lucille (Banfield) Cary, May 27, 1933, in Danville Ill. He grew up in Kennett, Mo., and lived in Memphis, Tenn., Miami and Lutz, Fla.

Dick is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Heather Collins (Diane Fojt); grandsons, Sean Grieco (Jenilee) and Kevin Collins; goddaughter, Donna Robbins (Todd); and cousins, Terry Malone (Melissa) of Kennett, Mo., James Dale (Barbara) of Houston, Texas, and June Richardson (Bill) of Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Dick attended High School at the Culver Military Academy, Culver, Ind., and received his bachelor of science degree from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina, in Charleston, S.C., where he was a member of the Society of 1842. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War. Following his military service, Dick had a long career as a chemist with several companies, including Plough, Inc. and Noxell Corp. He also continued to manage the family cotton farms in Missouri.

The family will be receiving friends 7-9 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2011, at Blount & Curry Funeral Homes, Carrollwood Chapel.

A private burial will take place August 16, 2011, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

Dick was a true believer in charity and a generous giver. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in his name.
