Charles W. Callison
1913-1999
Charles W. Callison, 85, St. Joseph, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1913, he resided most of his life in St. Joseph. He began his career as a printer with the former Combe Printing Co., St. Joseph, and then with the St. Joseph News-Press and Gazette for over 20 years, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Callison served as recording secretary with the Northwest Missouri Central Labor Council for 28 years; Community Services A.F.L.-C.I.O., from 1980 to 1991; Typographical Union Local No. 40, for over 40 years; and was an executive committee member of the Missouri State Labor Council for 25 years, retiring in 1980.
After many years of serving as recording secretary, he was honored by the Central Labor Council by naming their hall Callison Hall in 1982.
Mr. Callison also was a member of Zeredatha Lodge No. 189, A.F.&A.M., a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Moila Shrine Temple and the Masonic Hi Twelve Club No. 49, all of St. Joseph. He was an executive board member of the United Way of Greater St. Joseph, and was a member and served as past president of the Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 49, St. Joseph.
On Dec. 30, 1939, he married Lola M. Blake in St. Joseph, where she survives of the home.
Mr. Callison was preceded in death by his parents, Linville H. and Mary C.; and a brother, Robert.
