Gladys was the partner of William Sherrill Brantley and had two daughters. Gladys was the daughter of James Charlie Ewing and Una Gertrude Goss.

Gladys went through some rough times. Her partner, Bill, died suddenly on 9/14/1954, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a month pregnant with her second daughter. She had a two year old daughter named Sharron. Jerri was born eight months after the death of her husband. When Jerri was trying to walk, they noticed that she was limping. She had contracted a light case of polio. Gladys then died from cancer, when her daughters were only 12 and 14 years old. Their grandparents finished raising them.

Several of Gladys' sisters are still living. Her daughter Sharon, pictured here with her, died 9/2/2004, at age 52. Like her mother, she left a 14 year old daughter, Jessica. (See her page - Virginia Sharron Brantley Smith).
