Sarah D. Bassham, 79, of the 500 block of Spotswood Ave., a retired schoolteacher, died February 18, 1991, in a hospital.

Mrs. Bassham, a native of Franklin, was the widow of Charles N. Bassham. She was a member of Congregational Christian Temple in Norfolk. She taught at Mary Washington College, the Norfolk public schools and St. Stephen's Episcopal School.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy C. Bassham of Norfolk; a stepdaughter, Shirley B. Vernon of Largo, Fla.; two sons, Gerald A. Bassham of Norfolk and Richard H. Bassham of Charlotte, N.C.; two stepsons, Charles N. Bassham and Lewis Bassham, both of Rockville, Md.; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, by the Rev. Donald Kirkbride. Burial will be private in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home and at 4608 Newport Ave. after the funeral service.

Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association-Hampton Roads Chapter.
