He was the son of Ernest and Essie Derryberry. Derry attended Arkansas State College, was a WWII, U.S. Naval flier who was in the Black Cat Squadron in the Pacific, the 1st Hurricane Squadron in Miami and earned 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses and 5 Air medals. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Harriett (Vascou) Derryberry. Surviving are children, Jean (Mitchell) Cohen, Donna (Thomas) Hesson; grandchildren, Lindsay Jackson, David Cohen, Brian Hesson and great-grandchild, Avery Jackson. Burial of ashes will be at a later date. Visitation will be held August 15, 2011 at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, East Altamonte Chapel in Altamonte Springs, FL. Published in the Orlando Sentinel on August 14, 2011. Burial ceremony took place on December 2, 2011 with full Military Honors per his daughter, Donna and his wife is also buried with him.
