This is a memorial marker placed by the Georgia Baptist Association. Jabez's original marker, if there was one, no longer exists. Note: There is a possibility that Jabez is buried in the Marshall Family Cemetery. Someone added Jabez to the Marshall Family Cemetery and transcribed the marker that you see photographed here BUT there is no marker (memorial or otherwise) at The Marshall Family Cemetery. I have photographed every marker there as well as the memorial markers. The memorial marker at the Marshall Family Cemetery does not list Jabez as being buried there. The marker you see photographed is at the Old Kiokee Church (the original building) on Tubman Road.

BORN IN COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA., C.1794, THE SON OF ABRAHAM AND ANN (WALLER) MARSHALL; FOLLOWED HIS FATHER AS PASTOR OF THIS CHURCH, WHICH HE SERVED UNTIL HIS DEATH. HE WAS EDUCATED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA. NOTABLE POSITIONS INCLUDE CLERK, GEORGIA ASSOCIATION, 1821-1831; A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE ASSOCIATION AT ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THE GEORGIA BAPTIST CONVENTION, POWELTON, 1822 (ELECTED FIRST CLERK); PASTOR OF SHARON (COLUMBIA COUNTY) AND FIRST PASTOR OF SALEM (LINCOLN COUNTY). HE WAS A "THOROUGHGOING MISSIONARY," AND HIS SERMONS WERE "CLEAR, ZEALOUS, AND TOUCHING." DIED MARCH 29, 1832, AND BURIED HERE.
