RAY LEATHERMAN, b. 12 Sep 1906, New Creek, WV, Mineral County; d. 20 Dec 1949, Grant County, WV; m. MAMIE SMOOTZ, 18 Mar 1932, Grant County, WV; b. 28 May 1909; d. 25 May 1995, Mineral County, WV.

Notes for RAY LEATHERMAN:
Ray and Mamie lived in the ridges on the old Abe Rotruck Jr. home place. Ruby Smootz lives there today (2002). Ray was a farmer and drove a school bus for Grant County.

Most of the teachers of Poplar school would board with Ray and Mamie. They were very active in church work at the Ridge Dunkard Brethren Church. Ray was their church clerk almost from the beginning of the church in 1927 until his death in 1949.

Ray died of a sudden heart attack. He had came in from his bus run, ate his supper, and got up, bent over to pick up the poker to fix the fire and dropped over dead
