C.H. "Chuck" Fricke, 46 year old farmer living west of Winnetoon, died at his home at 2:20 o'clock Tuesday morning of poisoning. He drank a quantity of formaldehyde between 5 and 5:30 Sunday afternoon.

That he drank the poison knowingly is not certain. He had not been in ill health and seemed not to be in a depressed state of mind. He and Mrs. Fricke had just come home from Winnetoon with some friends they intended to have as supper guests and after putting some groceries purchased in Winnetoon on the kitchen table, he went to the wash house and drank the formaldehyde. Almost instantly he called his wife and told her he had drank poison. Dr. J.J. Melvin of Verdigre was called and arrived within ten minutes. The man's stomach was pumped free of the poison, but that which lodged in his lungs could not be removed and caused strangulation. He suffered terribly as a result. He drank about three ounces of formaldehyde, the remainder of a quantity bought to treat barley seed.

Charles Howard Fricke was born on the place one mile north and four miles west of Winnetoon where he died and except for four years in Creighton lived there all his life. The date of his birth was July 20, 1890 and at his death April 20, 1937. He was 46 years and nine months old.

In 1917 he was married to Anita Eggers, who survives him. Others left to mourn his death are his stepson, Walter Fricke, living on an adjoining place, his mother, Mrs. Amelia E. Fricke living with the family, a sister, Mrs. Laura Clare of Stuart, a brother, Fred of Anoka and two grandchildren. His father Fred, two sisters Louise and Anna and a brother who died as a child preceded him in death.

A large stock raiser, he was one of the best known farmers in his community. Genial and well liked, he will be missed by many and particularly by his two grandchildren, of whom he was especially fond.

Funeral services are to be held this Thursday afternoon. Services at the home, a mile north and four miles west of Winnetoon, will be followed by rites at the Winnetoon town hall with the Creighton Methodist pastor, the Rev. Minar A. Gerrad, officiating. Burial will be made in the Winnetoon cemetery.
