Benjamin F. Stockwell married 1st Sally F. Stockwell on May 27, 1834 in Brattleboro, VT. They had 9 children.
After Sally died he married 2nd on April 15, 1867 in Brattleboro, VT Caroline F. Miller who was born in Dummerston, VT May 3, 1833, d/o Royal & Betsey (Cook)Miller. Caroline had been married 1st to James Hite Briscoe on Dec 12, 1855 in Brattleboro, VT. He was born Mar 12, 1829 in Virginia and died Oct 20, 1862. It is not known why James Briscoe was in Brattleboro but after they married they moved to Charlestown, Jefferson Co., W VA and had 2 children. Their 2nd son Thomas L. Briscoe died there.
After the death of her husband James Briscoe, Caroline moved back to Brattleboro with her son James F. Briscoe. She married Benjamin Stockwell in 1867. They had one son Edgar Wells Stockwell born Oct 21, 1873 Brattleboro. On the 1870 Brattleboro Census for Benjamin & Caroline Stockwell, her son hs called James F. Stockwell. However, on the 1880 Brattleboro Census Caroline Stockwell is listed with E. Wells Stockwell, age 6 son; James F. Briscoe, age 22, son; and a servant Wallace Hall.
After the death in 1878 of her husband Benjamin Stockwell she went back to West Virginia to be with her son James Briscoe who had removed to there and married. This is where she died.
