Death of A County Pioneer.

GEO. W. FOX CAME TO FREMONT TWP. IN 1879.
Was a Member Of Masonic Order And O.E.S.---- Buried In Riverside.
George W. Fox was born in Burns township, Shiawassee county, June 9, 1852 and was the youngest child of George W. and Betsy Fox. He died July 31, 1920, having reached the age of 68 years one month and 22 days. In 1879 Mr. Fox came to Isabella county and settled in Fremont township and made the beginning of a home in the wilderness where he has lived since. In May, 1880 he was married to Emma Robbins and to them seven children were born: Captain Melvin W. Fox, El Paso, Texas; Dr. Dennis Fox, Winn; Mrs. Stella Fels, Orlando, Florida; Hugh L. Fox Durand; Mrs. Eunice Demarest, Clare; Milford G. Fox, Eau Claire, Dis.; and Mrs. Ellen Stutting at home. His death brings the first break in the family circle.
For over forty years the husband and wife have been constantly together. He will be sadly missed by the devoted wife who has ministered to him night and day during his last illness and also by the children who could always come to father with their sorrows and troubles and find help and comfort.
Mr. Fox joined the Masonic lodge in 1894 and was a devoted member until ill health prevented his attendance. He was also a member of the O.E.S. No. 377.
His funeral was held from the home Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. L.L. Hanthorne delivered a most beautiful sermon. The O.E.S. and the Masonic order attended and conducted the body to Riverside where they laid him to rest with Masonic rites.
All the children were present except Capt. Fox who is in the government service in the far south-west and was unable to come; and Milford Fox into whose home the angel of life entered at the same time that the angel of death entered the father's home. The many beautiful floral offerings from friends and the floral emblems from his fraternal orders attested to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Contributed.
Here to Attend Funeral. Amos Robbins of Pierceton, Ind. A brother of Mrs. Geo. W. Fox came to Winn on Monday to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law, and will spend a few days here before returning to his home. Morace M. Fels of Orlando Florida joined his wife in Winn Monday to also be in attendance at the funeral of Mr. Fox. Mrs. Fels has been at her father's home since June 1st and has helped in caring for him. They will leave for their home the first of the coming week. About August 6, 1920 Isabella Enterprise.
