Dorsey was the youngest of the Bowers children. He graduated from high school in Chanute, Kansas and for a time lived with his sister, Lena, at her home. He eventually moved to Kansas City, MO and was employed for many years (until retirement) by Western Union and Railway Express at Union Station in Kansas City, MO. He and his wife had one child, Jack Lee Bowers. He was well known by all of the movie, theater and vaudeville stars who traveled through Kansas City during the 1930s and 40s and was well thought of by all of them. Dorsey said they would alway ask after their son, Jackie Lee, as he was called at that time.
