Jeanne was born in Goose Creek (Baytown), Texas on January 8, 1928, the daughter of Jack Rhea Kelley and Agnes Marie Kanewske Kelley.
She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, where she excelled in academics and was a twirler with the Brigadiers. She stayed close to several of her high school friends throughout her life. She attended The University of Texas where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
When she was only seventeen years old, Jeanne captured the eye of a handsome young war hero outside of her father's grocery store. They were married two years later on June 10, 1947.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a steadfast encourager and was always available to lend a helping hand to those in need. Jeanne's encouraging spirit helped her tackle every adversity with an optimistic and courageous attitude. She enjoyed traveling and visited many destinations. Jeanne loved to garden, care for her many flowers, and enjoyed being a member of the Pine Burr Garden Club. She was also a wonderful cook and bridge player, who delighted in entertaining. She served the Lord with gladness for over fifty years at First United Methodist Church of Jasper. She adored studying the Bible, singing in the choir, and served on numerous committees for the church. Jeanne brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, J. Glenn Barber and her seven-year-old granddaughter, Amanda Jane Welwood.
She is survived by her brother Skip Kelley of Granbury and wife Melody, her daughter, Cheri Orchin of Jasper and husband Pat, her son, David Barber of Jasper and wife Karen, her daughter Nancy Welwood of Frisco, Texas and husband Curt, eight grandchildren, Tiffany Smith, Lauren Orchin, Taryn Orchin, Glenn Barber, Beth Barber, Alyssa Welwood, Adam Welwood and wife Amber and Alec Welwood, two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Clark Welwood.
