Fannie D. Johnson, 96, of Sumner, died Saturday, December 7, 2019, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner, Iowa with Rev. Mike Christie and Hugh Mackintosh officiating. Interment will follow at Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, December 13th at the Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be made in Fannie’s name to the United Methodist Church in Sumner.
Fannie Darlene, daughter of Jesse Russell and Maggie Edythe (Young) Johnson was born December 27, 1922, at the family’s home, rural Sumner. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Sumner. Fannie graduated from Sumner High School in 1940. Following her graduation, she worked at the Sumner Theater for a couple years. On February 15, 1942, she was united in marriage with Raymond Johnson at the Methodist Parsonage in Lancaster, Missouri with Rev. H.R. Tate presiding. To this union six daughters were born, Judy, Jane, Julie, Jackie, Joyce, and Janet. The couple farmed together from 1942 until 1991. Fannie was a life time active member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner, where she participated in several Women’s Circles, the United Methodist Women, and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the National Holstein Association. Fannie enjoyed Dairy Shows at the Fair, Chuck Wagon Races, caring for animals on the family’s farm, sewing, and music. She had many activities that brought her joy, but her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family.
Fannie is survived by her six daughters, Judy Kaune of Hazleton, Jane (Bill) Murray of Janesville, Julie (David) Pries of Sumner, Jackie (Carroll) Jenkins of Westgate, Joyce (John M.) Fay of Waverly, and Janet (Jeff) Jones of Sumner; nine grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on August 10, 2004; granddaughter, Dawn Pries; son-in-law, Laverne Kaune; three sisters, Mabel Miller, Edythe Johnson, and Lana Kaepple; and one brother, Billie Johnson.
