Ereno L. 'Barbie' Lewis Sr. of Swatara Twp., an active contractor and developer at age 87, died yesterday at home.

He was an excavating and building contractor, the developer of an Eisenhower Boulevard strip mall and a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Parish, Steelton.

'I lost a dear friend,' said Leslie Jacobson, his attorney, who called him 'a man of vision . . . responsible for a lot of the development in this township and this county.'

'He was a great man, a good businessman, one of a kind,' said Donald Horner, Swatara Twp. commissioner and former codes enforcement officer. 'He was very dedicated to his family, a splendid individual.'

Lewis was the widower of Mary H. Petrina Lewis.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary L. Laslo of Chalfont and Jacqueline L. Hendrie of Hummelstown; a son, Ereno L. Jr. of Middletown; two sisters, Ilda Tyndall of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Anna Moharter of Harrisburg; four brothers, Albert Lewis of Waterford, P.J. Lewis of Harrisburg, Tony Lucia of Florida and Alfred Lucia of Costa Mesa, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Steelton. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, West Hanover Twp.

Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Wiedeman Funeral Home, Steelton, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to PinnacleHealth Hospice, 3705 Elmwood Drive, Harrisburg 17110, or the memorial fund of his parish, 815 S. Second St., Steelton 17113.
