John Ellison

Funeral services for John Alonzo Ellison, 73, of Manila, Utah, will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Manila LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Richard Webster officiating. Burial will be in the Manila Cemetery.

Mr. Ellison died Tuesday at 4 p.m. in David O. McKay Hospital, Ogden, Utah, where he had been a patient one day.

Born Nov. 16, 1896, in Linwood, Utah, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Eva Nancy Despain Ellison. His was the first white family to move into Manila, where most families at that time were at least part Indian.

He married Eunice M. Wall Dec. 20, 1919, in Evanston. The marriage later was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. The couple lived for a time in Lyman, then moved back to Manila in 1940.

A maintenance man for the Bureau of Reclamation in Manila, he and Mrs. Ellison also operated a boarding house in Manila for many years. He was a member of the LDS Church and was an Army veteran of World War I.

Surviving are his wife, Eunice of Manila; one brother, Cecil F. Ellison of Ogden; one sister, Mrs. Edith A. Castagno of Tooele, Utah; and several nieces and nephews, including Albert J. Ellison, Eugene, Ore., who was reared in the John Ellison home
