Mr. Edgar L. Crossett, Jr., age 82, of Atlanta, died Saturday, December 29, 2001 following a hospitalization. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Assumption Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Fla., with interment in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.

A native of Jacksonville, Mr. Crossett had lived in the Atlanta area for the past 16 years following his retirement. A graduate of LSU School of Banking in Baton Rouge, La., he was the former Executive Vice President of the Springfield Atlantic Bank and was the founding President and a Board Member of the First Bank and Trust of Jacksonville. He taught several courses on banking at the American Institute of Banking in Jacksonville during the 1950s.

Mr. Crossett was a direct descendant of Judge Robert Raymond Reid, fourth Territorial Governor of Florida and a grandson of James M. Dancy, a Civil War veteran from Florida, who fought at the Battle of Olustee near Lake City, Florida. Mr. Crossett was an avid history buff and a baseball fan of both the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees which he enjoyed attending with his family.

Mr. Crossett served in the United States Navy serving 2 tours of duty, the second during WWII and rose to the rank of Chief Quarter Master / Navigation serving on the Cruisers Nashville, Philadelphia, and on the attack Transport Arrenec at the Battle of Quadal Canal in the Pacific. Mr. Crossett was a banker from the old school, who loved helping his customers and also loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Crossett is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Agnes Sallas Crossett; his parents, Mr. Edgar L. Crossett of Tennessee and later of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Caroline Hallowes Dancy Crossett of Palatka, Fla. Survived by: 2 sons, Mr. Edgar L. Crossett III of Atlanta, Mr. Robert P. Crossett of Marietta; daughter, Mrs. Carol Tolar of Lawrenceville, Ga.; son-in-law, Mr. Buddy Tolar of Lawrenceville, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Catherine Swain Crossett of Atlanta; 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild.

A rosary prayer service will be said at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, Fla. West Cobb Funeral Home, 2480 Macland Rd., Marietta Ga. in charge of arrangements.
