JOHN S. CLAPPER,
A former well known resident of Morrisons Cove, where he was born, and reared to manhood, but for a number of years a resident of 7304 Church street, Swissvale, died at Uniontown on Saturday night at 11 o'clock, death being due to a stroke of apoplexy suffered while in the Uniontown passenger station to where he had made his run as a passenger conductor from Pittsburgh. Mr. Clapper was born at Clappertown, Blair county, Jan. 23, 1863. He was educated in the public schools and entered the Juniata Colegiate Institute in 1880. In 1883, he attended the Indiana state normal school and for a time taught school. He then entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad company as a fireman on the Pittsburgh division, later being promoted to a conductor. Twenty-five years ago he moved to Scottdale and about twelve years ago he moved to Swissvale, running out of Pittsburgh to Uniontown. He was also engaged in the jewelry business, having a store at 1402, Oliver building, Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Lutheran church and a past master of the Swissvale Lodge, 656, F. & A. M. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Treese Clapper and two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Taynton of Johnstown and Miss Dorothy at home, and two sons, J. Walter Clapper and Homer
J. Clapper, both of Swissvale. He is also survived by one brother, A. B. Clapper of Martinsburg.
