Joseph M. Hancharik, 85, of Emmaus, passed away on May 27, 2011 at the Hospice House of the VNA at St. Lukes. Born in Allentown, he was the husband of Bernadine M. (Yale) Hancharik and they would have observed their 59th wedding anniversary on September 27. He was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Maco) Hancharik. Joseph served in the US Air Force during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He served his country for over 20 years. He received a Presidential Commendation from President Lyndon Baines Johnson for developing an inventory cross-filing system for the United States Air Force. This system is still in existence. Joseph also served in the Merchant Marines. He worked at Kraft Foods, Fogelsville, from 1973 until he retired in 1988. He was a member of St. Anns Church, Emmaus.
