Leonard Glisson Buckingham, 97, of Highland, Illinois, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Highland Health Care in Highland, Illinois. Funeral services are being handled by the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. A graveside service will be held at Knox City Cemetery in Knox City, Missouri, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, with Reverend Richard Handyside officiating. Leonard was born in Fancy Farm, Kentucky on March 27, 1912, the son of Claud and Flora Glisson Buckingham and was raised in Mayfield, Kentucky area. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters and one son. He was united in marriage to Mary Gosney Yochum May 22, 1966, currently residing in Highland, Illinois. He is survived by wife Mary of Highland, Illinois, daughter, Linda Ivie (Walter) and family, daughter-in-law, Pat Buckingham (Kenny – deceased) and family, stepdaughter, Louretta Rhodes (Gary) and family, stepdaughter Ruth Plummer (Jim) and family, and stepson David Yochum (Vara) and family. "Buck" was employed in various occupations throughout his working years. He had fond memories of working in the CCC Camp when he joined the Jonesboro CCC 1934. The Jonesboro CCC was sent to establish a CCC in Greenville, Illinois in 1935. After working hard all week, he was a boxer in boxing matches on Saturday evening, which was entertainment for Greenville residents. He was discharged after a year in Greenville but continued boxing for a few more years in Peoria, Illinois where he worked for Hiram Walker for 12 years. "Buck" and Mary resided in Edina, Missouri for several years where "Buck" was employed by the Edina Police Department. He also had fond memories of Edina and loved to talk about various incidences that occurred while living there. In his retired years, he set up in flea markets almost every weekend selling, buying and trading mainly knives. Besides "Buck", he was known as "Ole Kentuck" and "The Knife Man". Casket bearers will be Dave Yochum, Jim Plummer, Mike Trelow, Matthew Trelow, Bill Gosney and Charles Goodwin. There will be no visitation. Memorials in memory of Leonard G.
