PALMYRA - McCracken, Leonard Ovid, Sr., 77, much beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away on August 10, 2011. Leonard was born to Edgar and Marie McCracken on May 3, 1934 in Louisville.

Leonard dedicated his life to his family, to helping his friends, and to looking out for the underdog.

During his early years, he worked for Fawcett Printing Company in Louisville. Here, he served as the union shop steward and this responsibility prompted his career as a business agent/assistant to the president for The International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local Union No. 89 in Louisville. After retirement, Leonard went on to become a real estate agent and worked for both Landmark Realty in Greenville, IN and Homes and Farms Realty in Marengo, IN.

Leonard was also a stock holder and member of the South Central Indiana Livestock Marketing Corporation (SCILMC) in Milltown, IN and a member and strong supporter of the Democratic Political Party. Whenever asked for his opinion on political issues, his recommendation was to "do what is best for the people."

Leonard was preceded in death by his mother and father; two great-grandsons, Drake and Sean; a half sister, Lavern; and two half brothers, Buddy and Roy.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce; five children, Julia, Lynne, Jackie, Leonard "Pete" Jr. and Rita; 10 grandchildren, Anna, Aubrey, Alex, Leonard "Trey" III, Kayla, Maggie, William, Andrew, Kara and Benjamin; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Noah, Abbygale, Neven, Caleb, and Brileigh; one brother, Phillip; and one sister, Geraldine.

"Death ends a life, but not a relationship." - Jack Lemmon. This was a quote that Leonard had taken to heart and written down before his death. He was a very kind, generous, loving man and a friend to all. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Visitation for Leonard will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2011. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the funeral home, with a burial service following in Palmyra Cemetery.
