Born in Joliet, Fred was a lifelong Joliet resident. He retired as Business Manager from the Joliet Herald News after 38 years of service.
He was a Korean War Army Veteran.
Fred was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He was also a diehard Cubs fan. Member of the Joliet Elks Club #296 and Grace United Methodist Church, Joliet.
Preceded in death by his children, twins James William and Gerald William and Nancy Theresa and his parents Fred Sr. and Marie (Cleary) Carlson.
Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Lou (Hewitt), his children Thomas (Mary Lou) of Rock Island and Susan (Paul) Nagel of Johnston, IA, grandchildren Alan, Claire, Glen and Mark and brother-in-law Jack Azman.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.
Visitation Sunday, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
