Obituary of Nathan Meek
Nathan Meek was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Meek and was born in the state of Ohio, February 21, 1839, and in 1840 came with his parents to Illinois. He died December 10, 1911, at his home near Tampico, Ill., aged 72 years, 9 months and 19 days.
He was married to Catherine Adams in December, 1865, who preceded him to the Great Beyond several years ago.
Mr. Meek served three years in the civil war.
He leaves four sons to mourn his departure: William of New Bedford, Samuel, who resides on the home farm near Tampico, Richard of Tampico, and John, who lives on a farm near Tampico. He also leaves two brothers, William of Greenville and Samuel of Carleton, Neb., and three sisters: Mrs. Mary Renner of Davenport, Neb., Mrs. Elizabeth Renner of Walnut, Ill., and Mrs. Melissa Wymer of Carleton, Neb., besides many other relatives and old friends.
Mr. Meek had been in feeble health for some time suffering from diabetes. The departed one has always lived an honorable, upright life, his life work was done and he is gone to his reward.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church at Tampico, of which he was a member, having joined that organization when 19 years of age.
The remains were laid to rest by the side of those of his wife in the family lot in Fairfield cemetery.

NATHAN MEEK ANSWERS CALL
Nathan Meek, an old soldier and one of the well known old settlers of Tampico Township, died at his home three miles south of Tampico Saturday night about 12:30. Death resulted from senile diabetes and gangrene which affected both feet and was spreading to his limbs. The disease had manifest itself sometime ago and only for the past three weeks had his condition been such that he was confined to his home. The funeral services were held Tuesday at 12 o'clock noon at the Methodist church, Rev. H. A. Snyder officiating. Music was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hellier, E. W. Meredith and Mrs. Lovinna Booth. Interment was in Whittington cememtery southeast of Tampico.
The pall bearers were John S. Johnson, J. C. Adams, Robt. Adams, A. J. Graham, Frank Collins and Ann Burden.
Nathan Meek was born in Hardin County, Ohio, Feb. 23, 1839, and when a mere child came west to Illinois with his parents who first settled near Amboy, later going to Iowa, then to Wisconsin and finally locating near Walnut where he resided for a number of years.
He was married Dec. 21, 1865, to Catherine B. Adams at New Bedford who died May 23, 1899.
About 37 years ago he located on a farm southeast of Tampico and then a few years later moved to the place three miles south of Tampico where he lived until his death. He joined the Methodist church when nineteen years of age and taught school previous to serving three years in the Civil War as a private in the ranks of Co. 8, 93rd IL Vol. Inf. He was a good, quiet citizen, a man of good principle, and held inhigh esteem in the community which had been his home for so many year. Four sons, William F., of New Bedford, Samuel, Richard and John of Tampico survive, also two brothers William of Walnut, Samuel of Carleton, Neb., and three sisters, Mary Renner of Davenport, Neb., Betsy Renner of Walnut and Melissa of Carleton, Neb.
