Robert Hill Carter, son of George Hill Carter and Nancy Mildred Kallam Carter of Kings Creek, NC is known to have worked as an electrician in several South American countries: Peru, Chili, and the Canal Zone, beginning as early as 1910. It is possible that he participated in the building of the Panama Canal. He arrived in New Orleans on a ship from the Canal Zone on October 2, 1918 and enlisted the next day to fight in WWI.
