Television Pioneer. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he is credited as the host of television's first network game show. He began his career in radio, moved to television, helped to found the DuMont network in 1946 and became the first host of ABC's game show, "Chance of a Lifetime" in 1952. His game show hosting duties spanned more then four decades for programs to include "The Price Is Right", "Name That Tune", "High Finance", "The New Price Is Right" and "Lets Make a Deal". He also was the first person to ever host a telethon and even the first person to do a TV commercial. In 1996, he received a Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He died of cancer at age 79 in Palm Springs, California.
