His grave is in the family plot with parents, Charlie D. and Olevia B. Thrift Jenkins.

The Gadsden Times: Fri., May 11, 1945, photo of Jenkins and article: "Pfc. James E. Jenkins, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Jenkins is serving somewhere in Italy. He was sent overseas in August 1943 after receiving his basic training at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He is the grandson of Mrs. Y.A. Thrift, Ashville, Route One. Prior to entering the Army in Feb. 1943, he worked at Camp Sibert and attended Southside High School."

The Gadsden Times, Thurs., June 14, 1945: "Pfc. J.E. Jenkins is Killed in Action. The War Department announced today that Pfc. James E. Jenkins was killed while participating in battle against the enemy in the European theater. He is the grandson of Mrs. Maude Thrift, Ashville, Route Two."

The Gadsden Times Wed., Dec. 1, 1948, shows funeral will be at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church on Dec. 3, 1948. Note that he died in 1945, but burial in 1948.

His parents, Charlie and Olevia Thrift Jenkins, and grandparents, Y.A. and Maud Thrift and Hiram Jenkins, are buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
