Former Alaska resident Dewey Richard Sipe, 74, died of cancer Jan. 6, 2004, in Junction City, Ore. He was born Jan. 9, 1929, in Grey, Pa., to Harry and Lottie (Hoffman) Sipe. He earned a degree from Pennsylvania State University and joined the U.S. Air Force. Later, he was a civil engineer for the Department of Defense. He made Anchorage his home from 1958 until 2001. His family wrote that he enjoyed helping others, spending time with family and friends, playing poker, camping in RVs and fishing. Mr. Sipe was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Moreland of Eugene, Ore.; brothers, Roy and Paul Sipe; sister, Mae Clark, all of Johnstown, Pa.; and four grandchildren. Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Eugene was in charge of arrangements.
