Susan Scott was actually Susan Parker Scott and definitely not a spinster. Granted she had no children but she was married in Sioux Falls, SD to Anson Scott. To begin I'll tell you how I am related; Susan is the sister to my Aunt Ella Parker Dundas who was married to Edward Dundas, Jr my Uncle. Owing to the fact I am currently doing my genealogy I tend to try to find more information on my immediate family and Susan is no exception.

While looking through newspaper accounts I found more than I could ever hope for. George Parker was born in England and his first wife May Foy/Foye was from Ireland. All total they had 10 children and two of the daughters were Mary Ann and Susan(the youngest). May died and George remarried to Charlotte Jones. Mary Ann married Anson Scott and stole her sister (Susan) away to parts unknown. Anson and Mary Ann with Susan in tow fled to Sioux Falls, SD to live out their lives. Fast forward as years went by Mary Ann died and when she did Anson married Susan. (I don't judge). Finally Anson died and Susan wanted to reconnect with her family in New York. She first went to Plattsburg and found relatives then on to the border between Vermont and NY where she found she still had a sister that was living in Rutland. She went up knocked on the door and a very nice lady answered. Apparently that lady was expecting company perhaps to rent some rooms but lo and behold Susan finally told the nice lady who she was. I can just imagine if that had happened to me I probably would have passed out after 49+ years of not seeing my youngest sister. That very nice lady was my Aunt Ella Dundas! Any way Susan had a lovely visit and then went back to Sioux Falls to gather her belongings for the move back to NY. She is still in South Dakota in the 1915 census report. From accounts Susan wanted to be near family since as we say she was getting up there in age. One of the two things Susan remembered is her birth date and the name of her Dad. Finally in 1919 Susan died and it was requested for her to be buried next to her Dad in the Norton Cemetery, Keene, NY. For whatever reason no one bothered to check on her status and so they put in the transcription site as well as the cemetery book that she was a spinster(she definitely was not)./jdb
