Betty was born on January 17, 1920 in Muncie, Indiana to Vesta and Ephraim Spitler.
Betty moved to Boise in 1938 where she attended the College of Idaho. There she met the love of her life, Charles Darwin (Dar) Lathrop and they married in 1943. When Dar returned from the war, they built their home in Boise where she lived until her passing.
In addition to raising her two children, her greatest joys were golfing with her pals at the Plantation Golf Course, where she was a member of the same team for 30 years and President of the Ladies Golf Association for many years, and bowling. Her team of four women bowled on the same team for 45 years.
Her husband, Dar, preceded Betty in death in 1969. She later married Fred Smith, who also passed.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Leavell; her son, Dar Lathrop; daughter-in-law, Suzann C. Kline; grandchildren, Robert (Janet) and Rick Leavell, of Boise and Chrissie Lathrop, of Seattle, WA; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Robert and Patrick Leavell; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A loving and giving lady, Betty opened her heart and touched the lives of more people than she could possibly have known. Her family and friends will miss her so much.
Graveside services and interment will be held at Dry Creek Cemetery on Tuesday, August 16th at 11:00 A.M.
Donations to the Boise Memorial Hospice are welcome for those not wishing to send flowers. Those who desire to pay their respects following the service may gather at her home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel.
