He was a son to Frederick Percival and Myrtle Etna (Westenbarger) Smith. On Jul 21, 1961, he married Martha Jane "Janie" Chamberlin, who survives in Lima.

Also surviving are three sons, Charles Smith, and Jeffrey (Kathleen) Courtad, both Lima, and Dale Alan Smith, Wilmington; a daughter, Janice (Gary) Sliemers, Perrysburg; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a son, Lawrence; and a brother, Donald E.

He was a 1935 graduate of Lima Central High School. He was an Army National Guard veteran. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was active in the Teamsters Union Retirees Organization. He enjoyed playing country music.

Services are at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, with Pastor Phyllis Fetzer, officiating.
