Born in Canton, Illinois. Married Io May McCracken in 1890. They had three children: Stella, Jessie and Kenneth. Learned the trade of brick mason from his father-in-law Isaac McCracken and according to his obituary "proved a superior workman, following the profession when not employed at his home farm, constantly planning and accumulating comforts for his family, in which he succeeded, when he was stricken with his fatal illness." Member of Christian Church in Bloomfield, IA. Survived by his wife and children; an aged mother; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Barker of Bloomfield and Mrs. Mary Whitcanack of Birmingham;and one brother, B.F. Franklin of Omaha. Funeral held at the Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers were S. J. Beer, Walter and George McCracken and Roy Cheney. Interment in Bentonsport Cemetery.
