Canadian actor. Born on May 23, 1931 in Paris (France) from Turkish parents. In 1947, he arrived with other orphans of war brought to Canada, thanks to the Canadian Jewish Congress. After a stay in Toronto, he settled in Montréal to take lessons of dramatic art at Sir George Williams University. At the beginning of the 1950s, he studied at the school of the newly created Théâtre du Nouveau Monde (TNM) in Montréal. In 1951, he won the first prize in a drama festival. The same year, he joined in the Montreal Repertory Theatre. During his career, he took part in several theatrical productions, in French and English, in Quebec as well as in Canada. He was part of productions set up by companies like the Égrégore, the Manitoba Theater Center, the Rideau Vert, the National Art Center in Ottawa, etc. He was part of the castings, inter alia, of: “The Misser” (1951-52), “Ankarina” (1955), the “Nuit des Rois” (1956), “Les Caprices de Marianne” (1962-63), “Richard II” (1964), the “Le Bourgeois Gentlhomme” (1967-68), “Harlequin, serviteur de deux maîtres” (1969-70), “Les précieuses ridicules” (1979-80), etc. Although he was first a stage and television actor, he made also some appearances on the big screen. He was the cofounder of the Théâtre de 10 heures (1957-58), of La Compagnie de Montréal (1960) and of the Centre Théâtre (1961-62). He was also the artistic director of the theatre of the Musical Youths of Canada, and a production director at the Conswervatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal and at the National School of Drama in Montréal. Professor at the College of Saint-Hyacinthe, between 1969 and 1984, he produced there several plays, some of them his own creations.On January 7, 1989, he died in a car accident on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge in Montréal.
