Oldest British resident in Calcutta. She was the daughter of Edward Crook, Esq., Governor of Fort St. David near Cuddalore on the Coromandel Coast of India. She is noted in her obituary as possessing "a style of dignified hospitality." Married four times she became know as "Begun Johnson," following her fourth marriage and at the age of 87 declared the oldest British resident in Bengal, being noted as "universally beloved, respected and revered."
