Beruca Jefferson Tuell was born August 28, 1840 in Brownstown, Indiana to Jesse Peyton & Mary Ann (Prince) Tuell. He served in the Civil War in Company K 8th Cavalry Regiment Indiana. He married Josaphine May (a southern Belle) on April 3, 1864 during the battle of Lookout Mountain. He took her back to Indiana to live with his family and he returned to fight in the Civil War again. They moved out to California to join their children who moved before them. He died while visiting his daughter, Nancy, in Sacramento January 12, 1913.
